PROFILE

Ms. Widunbiliu

I am Widunbiliu, Managing Director and Team Leader at Eco Warriors Nagaland. With an academic background in forestry, holding an M.Sc and currently serving as a research scholar at Nagaland University, I bring together scientific knowledge and field experience to advance biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, and community-based environmental stewardship across the State.

My conservation journey began in 2022, when participating in a bird-documentation event sparked a profound interest in Nagaland’s avifaunal diversity. This initial exposure soon evolved into a dedicated commitment to wildlife monitoring, bird-watching, and biodiversity documentation across multiple districts. Since then, I have taken part in and led numerous field activities, engaging with local communities, students, and citizen-scientists to promote awareness and active participation in nature conservation.

In Eco Warriors Nagaland, I have played a key role in planning and managing outreach initiatives, including major awareness programmes on mitigating human–wildlife conflict. These initiatives aim to equip vulnerable communities with practical knowledge and strategies to coexist safely with wildlife, while enhancing community-led stewardship of forests and natural habitats.

As a team leader, I place strong emphasis on collaboration. I work closely with communities, government institutions, youth groups, academic organisations, and civil-society networks to build inclusive conservation partnerships. My approach blends scientific understanding with traditional ecological wisdom, recognising that long-term sustainability requires both knowledge systems working together with equal respect.

My vision is to help create a future where Nagaland’s forests, wildlife, and indigenous communities thrive in harmony — where environmental protection is deeply rooted in social values, community identity, and generational responsibility. Through my work in research, field conservation, and community engagement, I remain committed to strengthening ecological resilience and nurturing a culture of environmental responsibility across Nagaland.
