TOKHU EMONG BIRD COUNT

Bird Tokhu emong Bird Count

Tokhü Emong is a traditional festival of the Lotha community in Nagaland, celebrated with joy, unity, and thanksgiving after the harvest season. In recent years, this beautiful cultural festival has also become a powerful symbol of conservation through the Tokhü Emong Bird Count (TEBC)—a citizen science initiative that brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate nature by documenting bird diversity across Nagaland. TEBC is more than just counting birds; it is about reconnecting with the land, appreciating biodiversity, and taking responsibility for the ecosystems that sustain us. Every sighting recorded contributes valuable data for conservation, helping scientists and communities understand bird populations and their changing patterns in our region.

As Eco Warriors, we proudly stand at the heart of this movement. Our team actively mobilized schools, youth groups, and local communities to participate in the bird count, turning observation into action. We organized awareness sessions, guided bird walks, and taught young enthusiasts how to identify species and use birding tools like eBird. Our volunteers worked tirelessly to spread the message that conservation begins at home, and that every individual can make a difference. By blending traditional celebration with environmental responsibility, we helped make TEBC a platform where culture and conservation meet. For us, Tokhü Emong Bird Count is not just an event—it is a call to protect our shared future, one bird at a time.
