PROFILE
Mr. Lesemew.M
I am Lesemew M., the Founder and Chairman of Eco Warriors Nagaland and the State Regional Coordinator for Bird Count India (BCI) in Nagaland. My work is driven by a deep commitment to wildlife conservation, ecological education, and community-led stewardship of our environment. What began as a small initiative with a few friends has grown into a State-wide conservation movement, and I remain dedicated to guiding Eco Warriors Nagaland with purpose, integrity, and a vision for a greener future.
Through Eco Warriors Nagaland, I lead programmes focused on biodiversity protection, environmental awareness, restoration activities, nature education, and citizen-science engagement. Over the years, I have helped design and organise a range of initiatives—from bird walks, clean-up drives and nature trails to school outreach programmes and village-level awareness meetings. My goal has always been to bring people closer to nature and empower communities to understand and protect the ecosystems around them.
As the State Regional Coordinator for Bird Count India, I oversee key bird-monitoring events such as the Tokhü Emong Bird Count (TEBC), Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), and other major citizen-science bird festivals in Nagaland. These events provide a platform for students, youth, teachers, forest staff, and local communities to participate in documenting our rich birdlife through tools like eBird, strengthening long-term biodiversity monitoring in the State.

Mr. Lesemew. M
My love for wildlife and nature traces back to my childhood, when I would observe birds around my home and marvel at their beauty. That early curiosity has grown into a lifelong purpose—one that continues to shape my work. Today, I actively lead and participate in programmes conducted on World Environment Day, Wildlife Week, World Ozone Day, World Forestry Day, and other environmental observances, using these platforms to highlight the importance of conservation and sustainable living.
One of the moments of pride for our organisation came when Eco Warriors Nagaland received the Radiant National Icon Award for environmental and wildlife conservation. Receiving the award on behalf of the team was a meaningful milestone—not for personal recognition, but as a tribute to the countless volunteers, partners, and supporters who believe in our mission.
At the heart of my work is the belief that conservation must begin at the grassroots. I continue to focus on community engagement, youth involvement, collaboration with forest departments and institutions, and strengthening local stewardship. I strive to inspire others by showing that protecting nature is a shared responsibility, and that anyone—regardless of age or background—can contribute to safeguarding our natural heritage.
My vision is simple yet profound: a Nagaland where people and wildlife coexist harmoniously, where communities take pride in their environment, and where the beauty and biodiversity of our land are preserved for generations to come.
